The Legal Issue
Our member (name withheld for privacy reasons), a former mine worker, found himself in a difficult situation after being declared medically unfit in April 2021. Before leaving the mine, he was asked to complete insurance company forms but was given no explanation about their purpose. Time passed, and his rightful claim remained unpaid. He was left in the dark until he turned to Scorpion.
How We Fought for Our Member

- We took immediate action. We cut through the red tape and contacted the insurance company directly to demand answers about his claim status.
- We uncovered the truth. The insurance company had closed his claim due to missing documents – documents that the mine had failed to submit on his behalf.
- We refused to accept a closed door. We escalated the matter and challenged the insurance company to reopen the claim, making sure the mine’s negligence did not cost him his well-deserved payout.
- We guided him every step of the way. From obtaining the correct claim forms to ensuring he visited the right doctors; we made sure nothing stood in his way again.
THE OUTCOME: VICTORY FOR OUR MEMBER
Because he had Scorpion fighting in his corner, his case was successfully reopened. His claim was approved, and the insurance company paid out R153,698 to our member's Provident Fund. But we didn’t stop there.
We pushed harder and secured an additional R40,000 in monthly instalments for him.
