During the height of Covid and all through lockdown, it was more important than ever to have a team of lawyers to protect you and your family during the difficult time. Economically, it was tough for many people, so we chose not to increase our premiums during 2021 and absorb all the inflationary costs. Our last inflationary adjustment was in July 2020.

But to ensure that your legal protection remains robust and relevant, an inflationary increase to the premium must be made in July 2022*. We have remained mindful of the state of the South African economy, so we have tried to keep the increases to a minimum. We want to assure you that even with this increase, we still have one of the most competitive premiums in the market.

We have also made the following improvements to the service and cover:

• We have increased your Legal Expenses Cover Benefit limits, which means you and your family will have more money to fight in court*.
• We have increased the main members' Legal Expenses Accidental Death (LEAD) Benefit limits*.
• We have retained our Total and Temporary Disablement and Retrenchment premium waiver benefit. This benefit covers your premiums for 12 months if you are retrenched or injured and unable to pay your premiums.
• We have successfully launched an additional customer service channel through WhatsApp, in addition to our nationwide branches, 24/7 legal call centre, and Facebook and Web customer service channels.
• We have changed the Scorpion Membership Agreement, adding new matters that now enjoy Insurance cover. We also used the opportunity to explain terms and conditions better to remove uncertainty.
• We have opened the Potchefstroom Express Branch based on feedback received from Members, and three more branches are planned for the coming year.
• We have enhanced our communication platforms to ensure speedy responses to e-mails and SMSs and provide members with automated updates/ feedback on their ongoing matters.

And, from 1 July 2022, in our Para-Legal Services division, we will be officially launching a new specialist Uncontested Divorce Department that can help members finalise their uncontested divorces.

We had a massive influx of requests for Free Last Will and Testaments, Personal Income Tax support, and Social Work services (e.g., marriage & divorce counseling, grief & trauma counseling, protection orders). To meet demand and for more comprehensive support and assistance, we regularly review and increase resources in those specialist departments popular with members.
