Scorpion offers four membership tiers; essential employment or civil cover at R76/month, our comprehensive cover at R151/month and our Platinum plan at R232/month, which includes criminal matters, tax services, and exclusive additional benefits. Legal advice and assistance
Our skilled legal counsellors and specialists will try to help you sort out your legal troubles and disputes so that you do not need to go to court. This could involve, for example, writing letters of demand or advising you on how to deal with a situation. This can be done over the phone or face to face at one of our branches.
Access to legal specialists
Scorpion has a number of specialist teams of legal experts who work in specific areas of the law, for example, labour, motor vehicle, insurance claims, etc. Our diverse legal specialist departments ensure that you receive tailored advice and assistance.
24-hour help from our Legal Contact Centre
Our legal counsellors are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to provide you with telephonic paralegal services. You can also get help through the Scorpion website, WhatsApp, and Facebook page.
Cover for legal representation in court
If your case goes to court, we will provide you with a network lawyer to represent you. Subject to a one-month waiting period and per case limits. Terms, conditions and maximum limits apply. Please refer to the membership agreement.
Legal expenses accidental death benefit (main member)
This is a lump sum payout to a chosen beneficiary if the main member passes away from an accidental death. From the time we receive your first premium, you are covered for an accidental death.
Total and temporary disablement & retrenchment benefit
If you are the main member and you are retrenched or injured and unable to pay your premiums as a result, Scorpion will cover your premium for up to 12 months – which means you can still use the benefits of your Scorpion legal expenses insurance policy. The terms, conditions and limitations to this cover are explained in the membership agreement.
Free last will and testament
Our legal professionals will draw up a free basic will and testament for you so you have peace of mind that your final wishes are documented and legally binding, ensuring your loved ones are taken care of according to your wishes.
If you are not satisfied with the cover provided and you have not received any assistance (including paralegal services), we will refund you every cent you have paid. You will have 31 days from the inception date of your legal expenses insurance policy (i.e. from the date we received your first premium) to cancel. The policy cancellation procedures are fully explained in your legal membership agreement.
This is cover for job or work-related problems such as unfair labour practices, unfair dismissals, retrenchments, unpaid wages, unfair demotion, discrimination, unfair restraint of trade agreements, and discrimination in the workplace.
Civil & administrative issues
This is cover for a range of issues falling under these broad categories: • Personal injury and/or threat to a person • Property damage • Consumer issues and debt • Home and accommodation issues • Motor vehicle issues • Education and school-related issues • Status, reputation and identity matters • Banking, insurance, pensions and investment matters.

Personal income tax matters
Our full tax benefit is exclusive to Platinum members. This includes services such as submitting your taxes, querying SARS results and audits, lodging objections and more. For a full list of tax issues that we cover, click here. Policy A, B and C members qualify for advice only.
Extended Family Protection
You can add additional legal cover for up to four parents and/or parents-in-law for a small additional premium.
Occupation Specific Extender
You can add additional legal cover for certain work-related legal matters for a small additional premium if you are a qualifying educator, healthcare professional, law enforcement officer, correctional services official, member of the armed forces, security officer, or employed in another approved occupation. Your qualifying spouse can also add this benefit.
